Wayne Toups ZydeCajun
With his innovative ZydeCajun sound, Wayne Toups has reached younger generations of Cajuns and Creoles in ways that few others have. His airy, hard-driving accordion style, a fusion of traditional Cajun music with southern rock, is oft imitated, as are his throaty, bluesy vocals. His stylistic experiments have taken him in sometimes surprising directions, but throughout it all, he has maintained a loving commitment to the traditional French origins of Cajun music and zydeco. Over the last few years, he’s used his festival performance to to confirm his love affair with them and the music, and to experiment with textures and intensified traditional sounds, featuring multiple fiddlers, a deep back line, and steel and lead guitars.
